Growing in Faith and Love, If not Now when? - Study 1/20/11

Growing in Faith and Love, If not Now when? This past week, America has been blessed to know the youngest of the Tucson Arizona shooting tragedy. Christina Green (nine years old) was born on September 11, 2001, the day America mourned because of terrorist attack that killed about 3000 people. Christina loved people and wanted to serve and be involved. She was an A student and was elected member of her elementary school student council. Christina, we learned was the only girl in all-boys Little League baseball Team and she also sang in the choir. “She was an athlete, a good dancer, a good gymnast, a good swimmer,” her mother said. “She belonged to Kids Helping Kids charity and tried to help children less fortunate.” Christina’s neighbor took her to meet her Congress woman at a political event where she was shot by a mentally disturbed man. Christina died (with five others) living out her life and doing what she loved doing. I would say Christina lived out God’s call on her life. Even

A Second Letter to the Thessalonians - Study 1/13/11

A Second Letter to the Thessalonians I remember when I was dating my wife and we were millions of miles apart. I was in the USA and she was in Nigeria. We resorted to letter writing (before the age of cell phones and emails) to get to know each other and to communicate our feelings and the things that are so important to us. I could not wait for the next letter after receiving and replying to her previous letter. I can relate to Apostle Paul’s longing for his dear Thessalonians and the need to communicate life to them. Remember that by the special grace of God, Paul with Silas and Timothy birthed the Thessalonians Church. Like a new mother, Paul was chased out of town by persecution that separated him from the young infant Church. The first Letter to the Thessalonians was very powerful and very personal. If you have not spent good time reading it, I encourage you to do so. One of the major themes of Apostle Paul’s First Letter to the Thessalonians addressed their great desire and E
A New Year Revolution As we start the New Year 2011, let us set expectations and measures with which we can judge our success. We are not talking about New Year resolutions because we can’t keep them but rather a revolution. We have all made numerous New Year resolutions which we only kept for the first week of January. The most popular resolution everyone makes is to exercise. The first two weeks of January, you can barely get a chance to climb on treadmill because of so many on the line in the gym. By the third week, the waiting is cut in half and by end of January; you can stay on the treadmill as much time as you want because the crowd is gone. Where did all those people with great first-week zeal go? Are you one of them? Hey I am not picking on you but just stating the facts because I have been there. What is therefore a revolution that makes it different from a resolution? In a resolution, all you need is a mental assent and initial will-power to get started. It just means you

MARY CHRISTMAS

MARY CHRISTMAS Yes, you heard me right. Again I say to you MARY CHRISTMAS. But you say my brother you have misspelled “merry” in the greeting. No I did not. I am still saying to you Mary Christmas. So what is the point? We must have a Mary Christmas otherwise you will never have a “merry Christmas”. The World is celebrating and having a “merry Christmas” without the Mary Christmas. Talk to the merchants and departmental stores and all kinds of money making machines. It is time to make it or break it in terms of the year’s bottom line (aka profit). Those who sell enough and much more will have a “merry (happy) Christmas”, without the “Mary Christmas”. Likewise those who run themselves crazy buying more will equally think they are having a “merry Christmas” and may never experience the “Mary Christmas”. I am not ditching happy Christmas but rather we can and should have both. Mary Christmas is believing the unbelievable and receiving the impossible. Is this your definition of Christma

God is Faithful and He will do it - Study 12/9/10

God is Faithful and He will do it Last week we saw a news video of a California high school athlete (Holland Reynolds) who was running a cross country race. She was in the third position close to the finish line and all of a sudden, her feet collapsed for undetermined reason. She fell to the sideline and then her coach rushed to her side. With some encouragement, she regained strength in her arms and with “excruciating pains” crawled to the finish line. She is being celebrated for finishing the race that qualified her team to compete further in the State Championship. Reynolds said, "I don't remember falling, but then I remember crawling across the line." Now this is grace at work in finishing. In concluding this wonderful love letter to the Thessalonians whom Apostle Paul loved and introduced (fathered) to faith in the living God, he prays for them, “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blamel

Jesus Christ is Coming Back Tomorrow - Study 12/2/10

Jesus Christ is Coming Back Tomorrow I can guess what you are thinking as you read the heading. “This guy has gone nuts and now a heretic/false prophet”. Many will quickly dismiss that Christ’s second coming cannot be tomorrow. How are you sure it is not tomorrow? If you read carefully, I did not set a date and time in my assertion. In addition, there is truth to the statement because tomorrow is included in the possible day for the return of Christ since we do not know the time or the hour. More than anything, I want to provoke you in thinking and anticipating Christ’s return as if it will be tomorrow. What if it actually happens tomorrow? Are you ready for Christ’s second coming? Many in the past have set dates for Christ’s return that have come and gone. Of course we laughed at them and we should because they are foolish in doing so. The most current date I am aware of is that set by Harold Camping of Family Radio. Harold Camping says Christ will return on May 21, 2011. Camping’s pr
