Ask For Anything Really?

We continue our study of John 14 (please read the entire chapter). Was Jesus kidding or did He mean what He said as follows? “12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14 Really Jesus? Do you really mean I can do the same works you did and even greater? Jesus, I can ask anything in your name? Please tell me you are not kidding and that you are not teasing me. Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes! “Ask anything in My name.” In this discourse, John 14-16, Jesus said the same thing “anything” about three times. How can it be? It is because Jesus has gone away to heaven and have sent His Holy Spirit to all believers in Jesus. Remember the Holy Spirit is our “Helper” as we learned last week. Jesus said it was necessary I go

Do You Know the Holy Spirit and Have You Received Him?

Dear Saints: Yes, we know Jesus, God the Son and we know God the Father, but do we know intimately God the Holy Spirit? Who is this under-valued, unappreciated and unknown God, the Holy Spirit? We treat Him as if He is the junior person of our Triune God. Who is the Holy Spirit? Do you know Him? Have you received Him? The Church is weakest today because we have not fully answered yes to these three questions; and as such, individual believers in Christ are very weak and are not properly living the life in the Spirit and with the Spirit. Lord, please reveal to us, your very self whom we have neglected and dismissed thinking we can survive on self-determination and self-zeal. Why have we abandoned the "Helper" Jesus sent to us? Lord, please forgive us. Can we start asking the "Helper" when and how He can help us before we do anything? Lets we fall in love with Him, the Holy Spirit. He wants to love us. Jesus made Him the Holy Spirit very clear to us. Liste

2020 - A Year to Believe and Trust God

Dear Saints: Like many of us, I tried to clean my closet at the end of 2019. I was looking for clothes and shoes I had not worn for more than one year and setting them aside for donations to charity. I came across this one shirt and I liked it very much but it met my criteria. I struggled within me to let this shirt go and be a blessing to someone else. I looked closely and written on the label was this word, “TRUST”. I had never seen it before. There and then, I heard a small voice speak to me and saying, "Will you trust Me"? I immediately surrendered and let go of the shirt. In 2020 and in this decade, the word for me is TRUST. As we continue our study of John 14 (please read the entire chapter), I am again confronted with the word TRUST, just as Jesus reminded His disciples. Listen: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place f

Ten Questions for a New Year - Happy New Year!

Ten Questions for the New Year - Happy New Year! Dear Saints: Happy New Year! We thank God we all made it into the new year for God’s purposes and for His glory. I came across this good article by Don Whitney, Professor, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he helps us to “consider your [our] ways” (Haggai 1:5) in the new year. He asked the below ten questions that we can prayerfully answer in this new year. I trust you will be blessed by these as I am using them to “consider my ways” and asking God to “teach us [me] to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom,”(Psalm 90:12) in 2020 and in this decade. You can read the full article where Whitney explains each question.
