One with God - the One Church

Dear Saints: People are saying America is divided. But the Church of Jesus is the one divided in America into white and black. It ought not be. America with other nations are being shaken right now but actually the church is the one that God is shaking to refine her for His soon return to take us away from the earth. You and me and everyone born of God, who is a follower of Christ, must start looking inside and begin to demolish the idols in our hearts.  We must get to the point and position of the captain of the Lord’s army who said to Joshua, I am neither for or against but on the Lord’s side (Joshua 5:13-15). We must now stop, fear the Lord and worship Him in His Majesty.  I am again challenged by the words in 1 John 2. We must be redemptive in our position and love a fellow brother and sister in the Lord otherwise we are murderers in the heart.  We have been instructed as follows: "But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and know...

Recap of Study of Epistle of 1 John

We will recap our study of the first Epistle of John as we have completed the study. My take away: God is Love therefore we must love one another if we claim to have God in us and are “born of God”. Also that Jesus, the Son of God is God  who came in a human body. Jesus was 100% God and 100% human for the sake of atoning for the sins of the whole world.  Any other understanding or teaching about Jesus is false (antichrist) and therefore, we must keep away from such idols that are not the true God, Jesus Christ who is Himself Eternal Life. Bottom-line : “ 10  He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son .   11  And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  12  He who has the Son has  [ d ] life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life ...

What/Who Could Be or Is Your Idol?

Dear Saints: What/who could be or is my idol? What/who could be or is your idol? You may say what an insulting question. Well, if you don’t ask, and answer the question you will not know what and who is your idol and how deep you are worshiping this idol. Today as we end the study of John's First Epistle, we are confronted with the issue of idols in our hearts. If idol worship isn't a possibility for Christians, why would Apostle John warn us? Let’s hear apostle John ; 1 John 5:18-21  : " We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.  19  We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.   20  We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God an...

The Great Confidence to Ask for Anything: Your Brother/Sister

Dear Saints: Ask for Anything from God? Yes with a big yes! Ok, just a minute; Udo are you now into the nonsense prosperity gospel that says we must be healthy and wealthy if we are Christians and if not, it means we don’t have enough faith? God forbid! But of course God wants you to prosper and be in good health even as your soul prospers in the love and knowledge of Christ.  Ok, let me re-phrase as we continue our study of 1 John 5. Ask for anything according to God’s will. Yes, that’s what apostle John said and it’s in line with the words of Christ in the “Lord’s Prayer” He taught His disciples (Matthew 6:9-13). Prayer is seeing God's will done. “14  Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  15  And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him .” 1 John 5:14-15. The Holy Spirit has already given us the greatest assurance...

The Great Divide and Your Oscar

Dear Saints: We live in a world of divisions and groupings of people into various kinds - race, wealth, age and etc. However, there is only one great divide that matters and that is:  " Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” No other categories matter except eternal life vs eternal death. This is very sobering when everyone living right now is reduced to these two categories. Can we start seeing people differently into these two categories especially in this era of racial/tribal tensions and hatred all over the world and particularly in the USA? When we do, we will take actions that help people experience true life and living. Last week one of my Muslim neighbors, a young man I have been praying for a couple of years lost a very close friend in a terrible car accident. I had spoken to him in the past and had arranged to go to a sit in lunch/dinner and then the COVID-19 came and restaurants were closed. I had another oppo...

The Holy Spirit In Us Is The Truth & The Witness

Dear Saints:  We continue our study of 1 John 5 today. The Holy Spirit in Us Is The Truth & The Witness.  We have a sure witness that we are “born of God” and  are children of God. “ This is one of the reasons why apostle John wrote the Letter to the Church. Be sure and assured  of your eternal life in Christ:  13  These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life,  [ e ] and that you may  continue to  believe in the name of the Son of God.”  1 John 5:13. Let no one talk you out of your confidence in Christ as a child of God. Rather, allow the Holy Spirit in you to bear witness to others about the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit so that they  themselves will equally receive the gift of faith and be “born of God” as we are. Amen. More than ever before, our families, neighbors, co-workers, friends and the nation need faith in Christ. We are here to point ...

"Wakanda Forever" and RIP?

Dear Saints Chadwick Boseman, known for his role in the Black Panther movie as the king of a futuristic African Wakanda kingdom died last week of colon cancer at the age of 43. I have thought more about him and have learned more about him. Maybe because we share a common background as the great Bisons, Howard University graduates. But it’s more than that.  What really caught my attention is the shock, surprise and hard to believe statements of many of us on the news of his death.  What really is the surprise and shock? Is it that Boseman should not have died having played hero figure for many?; Or he died too soon or we don’t believe we ourselves will die?  I started to read up about the real Boseman. Did he have a family? Did he believe and trust Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior? At this point of his death and our death, these are really the questions that matter. In our continuing study today, apostle John points us to Jesus who has overcome for us and ho...

God's "Perfect Love Casts Out Fear" of His Judgment

Dear Saints: I have often heard the Scripture quoted,  “Perfect love casts out fear ”. Most of its use is often to calm down our nerves when we are facing dire situations/uncertainties and are afraid. That application works but it is not the intended by the writer Apostle John who is inspired by the Holy Spirit. I must confess that I do not understand it all. I thank God, that today we are reading and studying it in its context. Let’s continue our study and read 1 John 4:17-21: “17  Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.  18  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.  19  We love Him because He first loved us. 20  If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how...

Confessing Jesus As the Son of God

Dear Saints: “But who among us would think of giving up his son to die for his enemy, for one who never did him a service, but treated him ungratefully, repulsed a thousand overtures of tenderness, and went on perversely hardening his neck? No man could do it.” (Spurgeon).  The only person who could and actually did so is God; who Himself is Love. God is love. God is also just and righteousness and that is why His love and mercy triumphs over judgment against us sinners and once enemies of God.  It is not enough to know by head knowledge this truth. That is why, there is no universal salvation for all people of this world. We must confess it to own it and we must confess it to live it out on a daily basis; thus: “ 15  Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.  16  And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” (1 John 4:15...
