Peace of God at all Times - Study 3/31/11

Peace of God at all Times You do not need to be in the middle of a war zone to lack peace. You can equally have peace even in a war zone. You can be in the most physically secure place and in the midst of plenty and still lack peace in your heart and mind. Do you have peace right now? And do you have peace always and at all times? Are you disturbed and agitated? The subject of peace is dear to me because I bear the name. By divine providence and by God’s grace, my parents named me “Udochukwu” which means God’s peace or the peace of God. Udo means peace and Chukwu means God in the Ibo language. What is peace? It is “a condition of freedom from disturbance, whether outwardly, as of a nation from war or enemies, or inwardly, within the soul”. “Shalom” (in Hebrew) signifies soundness, health and well-being in general, all good in relation to both man and God”. Vines say, it is “the harmonized relationships between God and man, accomplished through the gospel”. The word peace has the follo...

Our Conduct - Study 3/24/11

Our Conduct One of the debates that surfaces during political campaigns is the one on personal conduct and public life. Usually a politician’s immoral indiscretion is exposed and often you hear that what he does in his personal life should not affect his public life. In essence he should not be judged and held accountable for his private conduct or lack of discipline. When it comes to the Christian life, should we therefore be held to a certain conduct or is it anything and everything goes especially since we are under grace? You may not like it but every kingdom that existed has a code of conduct and likewise institutions. The military has a code of conduct. Jesus instituted and called for a code of conduct for his disciples in His kingdom when he said "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another" John 13:34. In our study for today, Apostle Paul calls the attention of the Thessalonians to good conduct and to correct errors o...

PRAY FOR US - Study 3/17/11

Pray for us Why does God ask us to pray? Doesn’t God already know what we need? Why would a giant of faith like Apostle Paul ask people to pray for him and his companions? Do you need prayers for you and are you praying for others? God loves to be worshiped and He loves to hear from His children. This is my definition of prayer – It is worship and communion with God. It is amazing what categories our prayers will fall under when they are subjected to analysis. I believe most of our prayers would fall under the subsistence living or prayers for provision and protection heading. Have you noticed what Apostle Paul asks for when he says pray for me or us? In our study today, He makes such request of the Thessalonians. Let’s see. “Brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith” vs.3:1-2. Do you know who we need to be prayin...

GOD CHOSE YOU - Study 3/10/11

God Chose You On first read, the above statement may not register with you the impact and consequences of such pronouncement. Maybe if you were with me at the community gym when I had a chat with a Hindu friend, you would better appreciate that “God chose you”. My Hindu friend answered my questions and said, “Look, I was already programmed and brainwashed to believe in the many thousands of gods just because I was born Hindu”. He said he was so confused that even as a young person he wondered how he was going to appease all these gods that he can’t even number. And then, if he does not behave well and do enough good in this life he would have to come back in the next life worse than he is and reincarnate as a pig or some other lower animal”. My reaction was amazement and a feeling of sorry for him and for millions of Hindus who believe the lie. At the same time I was filled with thanksgiving and joy to God who has chosen me to know him - the true and only God. Being chosen is not ...

The Lawless One or Antichrist (part 2) - Study 3/3/11

The Lawless One or Antichrist (part 2) What is going on in the world? There are wars, fights, rebellions, revolutions, demonstrations, high unemployment, financial failures, earthquakes and etc! Is the world coming to an end? Yes it is ending soon but we don’t know the exact date. The Arab countries are crying out for freedom and we have seen the toppling of governments in Tunisia, Egypt and soon Libya. Make no mistakes, their cry for freedom is not found in democracy because it has not freed America. True freedom is only found in believing in Christ as savior. So let’s pray for the Arab nations that these people will seek and find Christ. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”. In the background of current world events, we continue our study of the End times and the “Lawless one” or antichrist in Chapter 2 of 2nd Thessalonians. Yes, President Obama is not the antichrist but that does not mean he or any past or present world leader is not being used to propagate antichri...

The Lawless One or Antichrist (part 1) - Study 2/17/11

The Lawless One or Antichrist (part 1) President Obama is the antichrist. You are probably shocked if you are hearing this assertion for the first time. All you need to do is Google “Obama as antichrist”. You will be amazed of the amount of the returns on this subject. We do not have time to explore what has been written because it is nonsense even when they used the Scripture to support their positions. Obama is not the first world leader that had been dubbed the antichrist. It sounds more like a political commentary by the opposing party of the President that is in the White House. It used to Ronald Reagan and in between him and Obama, it used to Bill Clinton and then George W. Bush. Way down in history other world leaders had been declared the antichrist like Mikhail Gorbachev of Russia, Pope Benedict XVI and Roman Emperor Nero Caesar. Why are we on this subject anyway? Chapter 2 of the Letter to the Thessalonians is on this subject. Remember Apostle Paul is writing to encourage the...

My Purpose/Reason for Living - Study 2/10/11

My Purpose/Reason for Living I heard about three carpenters working on the initial construction of one of the oldest cathedrals in the United Kingdom, Saint Paul’s Cathedral. One by one they were asked what they were doing. The first one said, “I am just hammering nails to a piece of wood”. The second one said, “I am just doing this so I can make some money to eat and buy things”. The third carpenter spoke and said, “I am building a Cathedral where God will be worshipped and His name glorified”. This third carpenter clearly understood the reason for living. Do you know why you are living and why you are doing whatever you are doing? What is your purpose for living? Activity does not define purpose. Unfortunately, a lot of people are going through the motions and not knowing why they do what they do though it may be important stuff. Purpose is given by the one who is higher and superior. Purpose is also revealed by the one who gives purpose. In our study for today, Apostle Paul prays an...

God is Just and He will Judge Rightly - Study 2/3/11

GOD IS JUST AND HE WILL JUDGE RIGHTLY Everyone is crying for justice. Starting from the basic family unit to the national and world levels, everyone is crying for justice. In the family, children hope their parents and siblings treat them justly and likewise spouses demand justice from one another. At the state and national levels citizens are demanding justice for equal treatment and fairness from their leaders in the use of national wealth and resources. At the world level nations are demanding justice from other nations for equal treatment, respect and seeking freedom from exploitation. As we speak today there is a wave and large cry for justice in the North African countries where massive demonstrations are taking place demanding change in governments from abusive leaders and misuse of national resources. Truth be told, such demonstrations should be going on in all of the African countries and the USA and all nations of the earth. Why the cry for justice? I want justice and likewi...

Growing in Faith and Love, If not Now when? - Study 1/20/11

Growing in Faith and Love, If not Now when? This past week, America has been blessed to know the youngest of the Tucson Arizona shooting tragedy. Christina Green (nine years old) was born on September 11, 2001, the day America mourned because of terrorist attack that killed about 3000 people. Christina loved people and wanted to serve and be involved. She was an A student and was elected member of her elementary school student council. Christina, we learned was the only girl in all-boys Little League baseball Team and she also sang in the choir. “She was an athlete, a good dancer, a good gymnast, a good swimmer,” her mother said. “She belonged to Kids Helping Kids charity and tried to help children less fortunate.” Christina’s neighbor took her to meet her Congress woman at a political event where she was shot by a mentally disturbed man. Christina died (with five others) living out her life and doing what she loved doing. I would say Christina lived out God’s call on her life. Even...
