Dear Saints: Yes, mind your own business. “Follow Me”. You didn’t hear it from me but from Jesus. Stop probing into matters that do not concern you. This is what Jesus told Peter. Dear Saints: Okay, the lockdown is almost over and will soon be over by God’s grace. We thank God! And now are you going fishing? That’s what Peter and some of the disciples did. Please read the entire chapter of John 21. What is your response to this COVID-19 season and after? We are all in this together but our reactions and responses are all going to be different. We will be tempted (out of frustration, boredom or perceived needs) to resort to what we are previously used to doing. Peter and others were bored and frustrated and they went fishing. They were equally jobless and wanting to make a living like most of us. The disciples have been with Jesus for three years. He has been crucified, buried and risen from the dead. Dear Saints: At the time of our new birth in Christ, yes we believed and trusted Jesus as our Lord and Savior who came from heaven, lived a perfect life, crucified on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, died and buried, rose again after three days, ascended to heaven and He is coming back again to take us with Him forever. By the way, that is the Gospel message that saves forever as we repented and asked for forgiveness for our sins. Dear Saints: There was a lockdown in the past so we aren't the first. The Disciples of Christ had their own lockdown, afraid of the Jewish leaders. They were not sure what was coming next. Their lives have had a major shakeup and it's time for a reset. The misunderstood Messiah who was to set them free from the Romans has been crucified and they're sort of confused and bewildered. Dear Saints: Jesus was declared just and without any of offence three times by Pilate. Yet, they crucified Jesus. Thank you Lord for dying for my sins and crime against the Almighty God. Dear Saints: “ Then He [Jesus] spoke a parable to them, that men [all people] always ought to pray and not lose heart.” Luke 18:1. Dear Saints: The more I listen to the news especially on the corona virus, the more I think of death and dying. I am sure I am not the only one. Everyone has the fear of dying otherwise we won't run from a burning house. People are dying and babies are equally being born (about 1.8 deaths vs. 4.2 babies born per second worldwide). I should watch less news and more living in the power of the Holy Spirit. Good news! Jesus came and gave us eternal life, forever living and not dying. Dear Saints: There are troubles everywhere in our individual lives, the family, the nation and the world. The latest trouble that is troubling everyone all over the world is the corona virus. It started in China and has killed many and spreading worldwide. Let us not be surprised. It is a messed up world because of our fallen nature from Adam and Eve’s sin of not trusting God. Dear Saints: A Christian without the fullness of the Holy Spirit, that is being surrendered completely to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit is like a car that has the gas/petrol gauge on empty; it can still start, run a little bit but cannot go too far without being stranded and out of gas. Dear Saints: We have heard so much lately about “witnesses and testifying”. The U.S. Congress spent weeks arguing about testimonies and calling witness during the impeachment hearing. Who is a witness and why should a witness testify? Testify (bear witness) of what? In our study today John 15 (please read the entire chapter), Jesus states who the witnesses are and what they need to testify. “26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.” John 15:26-27. Good Morning Saints: “I chose you”. We can’t do any better than hear these three words from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is very calming and disarms us from any pride and fills us with humility and gratitude. Yes, Jesus chose us and we did not chose Him. Was Jesus kidding or did He mean what He said as follows? “12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14 Really Jesus? Dear Saints: Yes, we know Jesus, God the Son and we know God the Father, but do we know intimately God the Holy Spirit? Who is this under-valued, unappreciated and unknown God, the Holy Spirit? We treat Him as if He is the junior person of our Triune God. Who is the Holy Spirit? Do you know Him? Have you received Him? The Church is weakest today because we have not fully answered yes to these three questions; and as such, individual believers in Christ are very weak and are not properly living the life in the Spirit and with the Spirit. Dear Saints: Like many of us, I tried to clean my closet at the end of 2019. I was looking for clothes and shoes I had not worn for more than one year and setting them aside for donations to charity. I came across this one shirt and I liked it very much but it met my criteria. I struggled within me to let this shirt go and be a blessing to someone else. I looked closely and written on the label was this word, “TRUST”. I had never seen it before. There and then, I heard a small voice speak to me and saying, "Will you trust Me"? I immediately surrendered and let go of the shirt. In 2020 and in this decade, the word for me is TRUST. Dear Saints: In the midst of expressing His ocean of love, the Son of man is betrayed on exiting this world. Jesus doesn't get any respect on entry and on exit. When He was born, there was no room in the inn (Luke 2:7) for Him. What a welcome we gave the God who made all things. Further, king Herod does his best to kill the baby Jesus. What a demonic hatred! Dear Saints: This Christmas, we celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus. What a wonderful time it is. Today, we meet the grown up Jesus in our study of John 12 (please read the entire chapter). He's coming into Jerusalem and riding on a donkey. It's quite a different picture when you merge the two together and the questions that arise. We love and adore babies because they are harmless, tender and need our help. We approach adults differently. We are questioning adults and suspicious of them and asking who are you. Are you as generous to baby Jesus as you are to the adult Jesus? Unfortunately in our world today many would celebrate Christmas, the baby Jesus but can't tolerate the grown Jesus. Why? The King, the grown up Jesus makes demand of us. He speaks for himself and tells us who he is. He is making very clear His purpose and declaring that He is God. Dear Saints: Everyone has a religion. It may not be organized religion. Your religion could be self-religion – a belief in self and what you can do without God. All religious people must come to faith, believe and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior; otherwise, their religion is worthless. The devil loves religious people so if you help turn religious people to believe in Jesus, Satan will plot against you. Dear Saints: I have so much to be thankful for this season. Thank you Lord for being my Father and reconciling me to you. I was so disobedient and too far removed from you in my sins. But you loved me and died for me while I was still in sin and not waiting first for me to clean up my mess. What other God could do that for me. You are my Lord and my God. Thank you Lord. Mary, Martha and Lazarus had in-person opportunity to thank Jesus. They have painted a real picture of Thanksgiving we can emulate during this and every season. Dear Saints: My younger cousin Uche Nduagu died last week in Lagos Nigeria. We had been praying earnestly for him and ministering Christ to him. Three days before he died, he called for his older brother who is an evangelist to come. Uche wanted to be sure and asked Jesus into his heart. They were both together as they sang chorus in the hospital and then he closed his eyes. What a way to go! We mourn for you Uche; you had only turned fifty, but we are comforted that though you are absent from us; you are now present with Jesus. Your name is Uchenna (God’s Will). Dear Saints: Last week, we saw that Mary and Martha thought Jesus delayed his coming, therefore their brother Lazarus died while sick. If Jesus was there they claimed, Lazarus would not have died because Jesus would have healed him. We like Mary and Martha reach all kinds of conclusions regarding God and what He will do and can do. Keep in mind that Jesus could have healed Lazarus from where He was by just speaking healing. We get disappointed when it does not go our way. But it is not God’s fault. It is because of our ill-conceived expectations that we are disappointed. Who has known the mind of God except the Spirit of God? I thank God that God is God and I am not. God knows everything and has the best in mind for us. Mary and Martha were looking for healing but God had the best in mind - resurrection.
