The Yoyo (aka Lukewarm) Church/Christian

Dear Saints: The yoyo toy is fun to watch for kids. It goes up and down and never settles at any particular point. As a verb, yoyo: fluctuate. Similar: oscillate, swing, alternate, see-saw, veer, waver, sway, vary, vacillate. Today, as we continue our study and as we hear Jesus speak, we encounter the most dangerous and frightening of the seven churches - the Laodicean Church. “The name Laodicea means “rule of the people.” This church well represents a church run by majority rule instead of God. Its name designates it as the Church of mob rule, the democratic Church, in which everything is swayed and decided by popular opinion, clamor and voting (Seiss). This is the modern day church where you and I live. Let us hear Jesus speak in the book of Revelation (please read entire chapters 2 and 3): “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 “I know your works, that you are nei

The Faithful Church/Christian

Dear Saints: Jesus is looking for faithfulness in all that we are and doing. Faithful to Him and trusting God at all times. Jesus has found a faithful Church in Philadelphia. The city of Philadelphia was planned to be a center of Greek culture and language spread. It was also prone to earthquakes. And it was also known for its strategic highways that connected Europe and Asia. The Philadelphia church had only commendations from Jesus and was not commanded to repent like the other churches. This is the ideal church and model for all Christians. Let’s hear from Jesus, the “holy” and “true” One speak to the Church at Philadelphia in the book of Revelation (please read entire chapters 2-3):   “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”: 8 “I know your works.  See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a l

The Dead Church/Christian

Dear Saints: It’s an oxymoron for the these two words to go together - Dead and Church. The Church is a living organism with Christ as the head and Christ’s followers as the body. The Church lives forever because Christ lives forever. How can a church be dead? What makes a church dead?  The headline today reads, “The Lutheran church elected its first transgender bishop, who will lead 200 congregations”.  Dead or alive church? You decide. The Lord Jesus pronounced and declared a local church dead i.e. the people not the building. Basically, this church is only one in name only. The church at Sardis was dead. The city of Sardis was wealthy and proud. Let’s hear it directly from Jesus in Revelation 3 (please read the entire chapters 2-3): " And to the   [ a ] angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘These things says He who   has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.   2  Be watchful, and strengthen
