Propitiation and Keeping His Commandments?

Dear Saints: What is this big word “Propitiation”? I thought we are in the new Testament; and now you are saying we have to “keep His commandments”? 1 John 2:1-6: "My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. The Test of Knowing Him 3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” From the dictionary: “Propitiation (noun) the act of atoning for sins or wrongdoing (especially appeasing a deity). Synonyms: conciliation, placation, expiation, atonemen

Hates A Brother?

Dear Saints: Hates a brother? No way, that doesn’t happen. Christians do not hate anyone including their brothers or sisters. Really? So why is apostle John writing about it. This Letter of John is not the Washington Post or the New York Times but God’s Word to believers and followers of Christ. Yes, we can hate our brother and we have all done so. No one is exempt. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. We have all missed the mark. "9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes." 1 John 1:9-11. Notice the continuing tense of the word “hates”. John is not saying “hated” but “hates”. This is the person whose heart is full of hate for a particular brother and continues to hate this b

I Am Not Black

Dear Saints: I am not black, neither are you white, brown, yellow or any other color. I am the image of God. "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:26-28). I believe going back to the beginning will help us understand the racial crisis of our time and thus respond properly. When I say “I am not Black”, most of you understand what I am saying. Of course I am not saying literally that I am not black nor denying the diversity of God’s creation. I also wanted to get your attention. All peoples without exception are made in the image of God. That’s what I am saying. When I see you as the image of God, I will not dare kill you and neither would you when you see me as the image of God. When MLK said to be judged by ones character instead of the color of their skin, he was not dismissing the beauty of God’s creation of peoples of all colors. I believe MLK was pointing to the essence of who we are
