Do You Know the Holy Spirit and Have You Received Him?

Dear Saints:

Yes, we know Jesus, God the Son and we know God the Father, but do we know intimately God the Holy Spirit?
Who is this under-valued, unappreciated and unknown God, the Holy Spirit? We treat Him as if He is the junior person of our Triune God.

Who is the Holy Spirit? Do you know Him? Have you received Him? The Church is weakest today because we have not fully answered yes to these three questions; and as such, individual believers in Christ are very weak and are not properly living the life in the Spirit and with the Spirit.

Lord, please reveal to us, your very self whom we have neglected and dismissed thinking we can survive on self-determination and self-zeal. Why have we abandoned the "Helper" Jesus sent to us? Lord, please forgive us. Can we start asking the "Helper" when and how He can help us before we do anything? Lets we fall in love with Him, the Holy Spirit. He wants to love us.

Jesus made Him the Holy Spirit very clear to us. Listen to Jesus as we continue our study in John 14 (please read the entire chapter):

15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you…. “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him…

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14: 15-26.

26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning." John 15:26-27

Hello, the Holy Spirit is not an “it”, not a "force" (per the Jehovah Witnesses), and not Mr. spooky that we have to be afraid of. Some in the Church don't even want to mention His name. We even have unhealthy and misguided divide: the Spirit filled Churches and the Bible (the Word) Churches. No wonder we have half-baked Christians who are very ineffective. The Father, the Spirit and the Word are One (see 1 John 5:7).

Did you see the distinction Jesus made in John 14:17? The people of this world do not know and have not received the Holy Spirit. This implies, if you belong to Christ, you must know the Holy Spirit and must receive Him. No wonder Paul asked “some disciples 2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit… 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.7 Now the men were about twelve in all.” Acts 19:2,6.

Oh, I may be upsetting your long held theology and doctrine but you must be baptized in the Holy Spirit. Just as you were baptized (immersed) in water, you must be filled and continuously being filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). Yes, you could equally speak in tongues and prophesy(gifts of the Holy Spirit) as many did in the book of Acts. The Holy Spirit was given to them and for us today. We need the Holy Spirit today more than ever before.

Please get the main point: Without receiving the Holy Spirit you are not a Christian and you cannot live the life of Christ. You cannot speak to anyone about Christ and the Gospel without the enablement and power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).

Here is the picture of our lives when lived in the Spirit and with the Spirit: “22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:22-25.

Lacking any of these fruit of the Spirit? Then seek the Holy Spirit, spend time with the Holy Spirit and know Him intimately.

Lord, please help me to know the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom you sent to be with me and that lives in me. Dear Holy Spirit, please come into my life and have your rightful place and please lead me to all truth and continue to reveal Jesus to me. Help me to walk in the Spirit and with the Spirit.

Help me to fall in love with you Holy Spirit and know you intimately through your Word so I can hear clearly and obey you and the Lord Jesus and the Father. Amen.

Are you hungering, listening and hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit as He speaks to you in every day life events and in the Bible? Let's obey His voice.

Holy Spirit, please overshadow us as it was spoken of Mary in Luke 1:35 “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Amen.

Saints, I challenge you to study and even google the bible references of the mention of the Holy Spirit to get to know Him intimately.
