Be Reconciled to God - Study 3/22/12

Be Reconciled to God Why is it that people of all sorts can understand the most complex issues and matters that will make ones brain spin but miss the most simplest of God’s message. We have scientist who can solve the most difficult mathematical problems and apply them to the point of sending people to the moon and back and yet the simple message of the gospel goes over their heads. This is not restricted to scientist but to all. One answer as stated by Apostle Paul is that the minds of the unbelieving have been blinded by the devil (2 Corinthians 4:4). So I pray today that any of us reading this that the blindness and veil be removed from us in Jesus name. Apostle Paul had taught the Corinthians in person when he first presented the gospel (Acts 18). Now in this Letter 2 Corinthians 5, he summarizes the gospel as the message of reconciliation saying to the Corinthians, “We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so t...

I am an Ambassador for Christ - Study 3/15/12

I am an Ambassador for Christ The word ambassador carries many immediate impressions when we hear it. Let’s look at some of them. The first is someone who is important, highest ranking, one representing a government usually in a foreign land; one who advances the interest of his nation; someone who may or may not know the indigenous language but at least understand the culture of the foreign land. It also conveys someone who speaks for the leader of his own country. It also speaks of someone whose appointment is not permanent and can be recalled at anytime by the one who sent him/her. It also includes someone who is older and wise. In today’s study, Apostle Paul refers to himself and us as “Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us” 2 Corinthians 5:20. He is pleading with the Corinthians for God. It is a privilege to be called an ambassador for Christ. In the government use of the word, the ambassadors are granted diplomatic immunities but at the same t...

Heaven and Death - Study 3/8/12

Heaven and Death Have you ever wanted to be in heaven but not wanting to die first? I have never met anyone in his/her right senses who is so willing to die. You can say that of many non believers in Christ who may not know exactly what comes after death. But the same can be said for believers in Christ. We have all read and dreamed about heaven especially from the book of Revelation. There will be no more death, sorrow, crying, no pain etc. Even at the excitement of it all about heaven we still do not willingly volunteer to die. We love this life we are living but we also love heaven even more. So is there are disconnect? Well not really. We are not the only ones who have experienced this tug of war going on inside of us. Listen to Apostle Paul, “While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life” (...

Hello Fello Clay Pot - Study 3/1/12

Hello Fellow Clay Pot When I was growing up, we lived close to a big market that convened every eight days. Merchants from far and wide traveled to bring their goods to be sold. People will also come from far and near to buy on this day. One of things we loved to watch as kids were the clay pot makers/merchants. Either on the bicycles or on their heads, they will stack the pots on top each other. You wondered how they do it and keep them steady. Once in a while, they will stumble and the unthinkable happens. You will see all the clay pots shatter into pieces. Usually nothing is left and this poor woman or man would just turn back in disappointment heading back home. All the hard work for many months in making the clay pots and the income for that period was gone in seconds. In answering the Corinthians and in defense of his ministry, Paul uses this profound picture of us being clay pots/vessels in which God pours into and out the greatest treasure on earth – the knowledge of God wh...

Who is Sufficient? - Study 2/23/12

Who is Sufficient? The Old and the New Covenant There are many things in which we can compare the old and the new. One obvious one is the computer age. Many years ago, the old first generation IBM computer was a massive structure that filed the space of one large room. It could only do but so little. Compared to the computers of today that fit in the palm of our hands, the size alone is the first difference. The new computers are now accessible to almost of us and can accomplish millions of things the old IBM dinosaur computers could not. The idea of intelligent computing had been there many years ago but the power to perform was lacking. In a way, it is similar to the Old and the New Covenants from God. A covenant is set by one party (higher subject) but cannot be amended. It is either accepted or rejected by the lesser subject to the covenant. It is not a contract where the two parties have to agree on terms and conditions. God made a covenant with man and set the conditions ...
