The Lord is Coming Soon. So What?

The Lord is Coming Soon

Many in the Church and outside are more worried and concerned about who will be the next President of America than the impending return of Jesus Christ as Lord, King and Judge of the whole world. People are petrified of either Trump or Hillary winning in November than any thought of the consequences of Christ’s return.

Where are you on the spectrum? Are you eagerly waiting for Jesus or eagerly waiting for your favorite candidate to win? More worried about the November election than understanding your “election” as a child of God?

Some will spend hours debating the merits of Trump or Hillary and will never spend a minute on who Jesus is to another. Can we channel those same passions for Christ? If not it reveals something about the state of our hearts - cold, lukewarm or hot. Where are you with Jesus- cold lukewarm or hot? Let’s turn the debate around and use the time to ask people to “elect” God into their hearts. Better, help them see Jesus who has “elected” and reconciled them to God.

I know it is very easy to be drawn into the current debate of Trump vs. Hillary (I found myself in it sometimes). Some think that the election of either of them would be the worst thing that would happen to America. The worst thing that would happen to America and to our loved ones and all we are concerned for will be Christ’s return; and many of these same people do not know Christ as their Lord and Savior. Shouldn’t that concern us more than the next USA Presidential election? God will still be on His throne after November, 2016.

In our ongoing study, I almost missed this single sentence in Paul’s epistle to the Philippians. “The Lord is near” (AMP) “coming soon” (NLT) “at hand” (NKJV); “Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute!” (The Message) Philippians 4:5. This is Paul’s warning about the end of this age.

Note that this whisper of the Holy Spirit is sandwiched between two sentences of what Jesus wants us to do and not do. It says:

“Rejoice in the Lord always delight, take pleasure in Him; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience be known to all people. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything every circumstance and situation by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your specific requests known to God. And the peace of God that peace which reassures the heart, that peace which transcends all understanding, that peace which stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus is yours. Philippians 4:4-7.

We are to be rejoicing in the Lord because our names are in the Book of life. We are to show it and gently present and persuade all people to Jesus because that is all that matter.

We are not to be anxious and worried but be praying and thanking God always.
Do you want peace during this election and forever then pray and thank God as a follower of Christ. If you are yet to follow Christ, humble yourself and "call on His name to be saved " for He saves all who call on Him and your name will be permanently written in the most important book, the Book of Life.

You can email, facebook and twit all you want about Trump or Hillary but you are wasting your time as a believer if you are not praying. And if not a believer you are headed to hell (separated from God) if you don't know Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Sorry, this is not my verdict.

Someone said your "preparation determine your expectations". If the President told you he was coming to your house, would you prepare and what will you be doing before his visit? If we are eagerly waiting Jesus’ return, how and what are we preparing? What manner of life are we to live?

The Lord is near and coming soon. Oh yeah, you may say it was said more than 2000 years ago and he hasn't showed up. Because he loves you and me and the rest of the world who are yet to know him. Can we join Jesus in his expression of love and call people to Jesus? “20 So we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us; we [as Christ’s representatives] plead with you on behalf of Christ to be reconciled to God”. 2 Corinthians 5:20.

The Lord is near and coming soon; what are you doing today and maybe tomorrow?
The Lord is near. The stage is set and it is a matter of hours. The world events point to it. There are no coincidences. He will come as He said. The only remaining thing is that “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come”. Matthew 24:14.

You and I got this command and mandate. What are we doing? The Lord is near and coming soon. Is my love for Jesus reflective of my expectation for His soon coming? Help me Lord. Come Lord Jesus come.

What can you and I do differently knowing the soon return of Jesus? Someone to forgive? Someone to tell about Jesus?
