And Be Thankful, Happy Thanksgiving
And be Thankful, Happy Thanksgiving
"14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him". Colossians 3:14-17
What, How and Why be thankful? This is the flow. When the grace of God floods our heart, Christ enters our heart and we become one with Him and with the Father. Then we enter into God’s peace and experience peace and the Prince of Peace, Jesus. Then and only then can we be truly thankful when we richly dwell in Jesus and His Word. Any other means of being thankful is not complete if it lacks Christ in the heart.
The question is not really what are you thankful for but are you being thankful? There are many things we are thankful for and we should. “Be thankful” is a state of being that we receive by grace through Christ. Nothing else that is nice and good need to happen to us for us to be thankful. We are to be thankful at all times because that is our new nature in Christ. Watch the life of Jesus as the Son; always giving thanks to God the Father at all times.
“18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, …20 Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”. Ephesians 5:18-20
“Be thankful” and being thankful is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. It is not turned on and off. The state of peace and the state of being thankful cannot be separated. Peace is absolute trust and abandonment in Christ for His love and for all He accomplished on the cross for us. Christ died on the cross and has taken away our sins forever. Peace is permanent and must “rule” or govern our hearts and life. We are in peace and thankful only in Christ.
Let’s be who we are, “peaceful” and “thankful”. Thanksgiving Day is just a holiday so let’s enjoy the break and spend time with family and friends and strangers we invite to join us. Pray for and promote peace and being thankful in your family and wherever you may be.
“Be thankful” forever. That is who you are. Help someone be at peace and thankful and become thankful by introducing them to Christ the Savior and the Prince of Peace. Remember, no Christ, no peace and no thanksgiving.
