Allow Jesus to Take You Aside for Truth

Allow Jesus to Take You Aside for Truth

Have you been taken aside and spoken to by Jesus? There must come a time when every follower of Christ must be taken aside by Jesus. When Christ takes you aside, He will speak the ultimate truth to you that will rock the foundation of your life. It will not be once but as many as necessary. Jesus will speak the truth to you until you understand the truth which will set you free.

In our study today, Matthew 20, Jesus took His disciples aside and for the third time tells them of his impending death on the cross. The first time, the disciples did not get it. Peter in essence spoke for all reflecting our typical reaction. “22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” Matthew 16:22-23.

Jesus came only to die on the cross and nothing was going to stop it. His death was the perfect will of the Father God to redeem us from the wages of sin which is permanent death and separation from God.

Do not stand in the way of another person’s dying in Christ. It may be the suffering of a loved one. Just pray for God’s grace to be sufficient for the person. Do not stunt the growth of another person by your own self-manufactured salvation. Let God save them and save you. Don’t worry; like Jesus, they will “rise again.”

When Jesus speaks again about his death, notice initially, the disciples said nothing and were really in denial just like us. Rather, they lived as if nothing has been said and quickly went into juggling for positions and importance. ““Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.” Matthew 20: 21.

Oh, we are still there today. We run from the very death that will bring us everlasting freedom. We must die in Christ in order to live with Christ. You want to be great? “Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.” Who will you serve today?

Can Jesus take you aside and speak truth to you today? This past weekend, Jesus took me aside. I heard Him. I need to do something about my prayer life if I want to be one with Him. It hurts but it is true. What is Jesus saying to you; or about a loved one? What are you going to do about it?

Lord help us today to hear you speak the most difficult truth about us or about a loved one. Free us from our selfishness and wanting to live on earth forever instead of desiring to live with you forever. May your grace be sufficient for us in our dying and living for you. Amen.

Matthew 20:17-28 Jesus a Third Time Predicts His Death and Resurrection

17 Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, 18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, 19 and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.”

Greatness Is Serving
20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him.
21 And He said to her, “What do you wish?”
She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.”

22 But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”[d]
They said to Him, “We are able.”
23 So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with;[e] but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.”

24 And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. 25 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. 27 And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
