The Day I Attended Two Funerals - Happy Good Friday & Resurrection Day

Two weeks ago, I attended the funerals of two-family friends on the same day. This was first of its kind in my life. Both were in the same hospital at the same periods.

It was a very sober day to be with the immediate families of Rose and George. Death at any age is painful to the living. Lord, please continue to comfort their families and all of us who have lost loved ones recently or in the past. Amen.

Funerals have a way of bringing us to confront our eternity and ask ourselves serious questions. The scripture says, "It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart." Ecclesiastes 7:2

Like, the Psalmist said, I have been chewing on this scripture:

"Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.  If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:10-12.

I am comforted in this holy week remembering and celebrating the sufferings, the brutal death, burial and the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I thank God for the Lord's Resurrection and the sure Hope of our resurrection for those who have believed and accepted Christ as Lord and Savior and are born again by the Holy Spirit.

Like apostle Paul said, "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.  If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.  Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." 1 Corinthians 15:17-20

The two preachers at the funerals in different locations, without consulting, both spoke from Ecclesiastes 12:

“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher.  “Everything is meaningless!” Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.  For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:8,13-14.

One of the preachers reminded us to stop "chasing the wind," for that is really what we are all doing with all that we acquire, and we are going nowhere with them. Lord, please help me to stop chasing the wind for nothing.

I wonder what will be said of me at my funeral as I listened to testimonies about Rose and George, both trusted in Jesus. I wonder what will be said of you. Actually, more importantly is what God will say of us.

Lord, please help me to live daily in fear and reverence of you knowing that you see all I do and speak. Holy Spirit, please help me to obey the command of Jesus to love God and love all people and to serve you now with my whole being in whatever I am doing and have and wherever I may be and in all circumstances. Amen.

If you are reading this and have not confessed your sins, repented, believed in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, I appeal to you now to do so. Today, is the day of salvation not tomorrow.

YES, INDEED CHRIST IS RISEN AND ALIVE FOREVER! HALLELUJAH! WE HAVE THE GREATEST HOPE!

Happy Good Friday and the Resurrection Remembrance and Celebration.
