2014 - A Year to Know Our God

2014 – A Year to Know Our God

Here is Apostle Paul’s Prayer: “My prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him” Ephesians 1: 16-17. It is also my prayer this year for me and for you. Why is it so important this year that we should know and grow in the knowledge of God?

I submit to you that the number one need in our lives is to know God through an intimate relationship with Him. For the Scriptures says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children” Hosea 4:6. Also, In Daniel 11, it says, “32 Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. 33 And those of the people who understand shall instruct many”. Daniel 11: 32-33.

If you do not know God, you do not know who you are. The beginning of wisdom is the knowledge of God. When you know God, you know His love and His plan for you in the context of His Eternal plan. When you do not know God’s love for you, you look everywhere else for love. When you don’t know God you keep looking only for material blessings while God has already “blessed you with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus”. You trust without question, the person you know very well because you know the person loves you; you are not afraid and you can totally depend on this person – i.e. only God.

It is very vital this year that you and I know and grow in God. I don’t want to “perish or be destroyed” for lack of full, precise and correct knowledge of God. I also want to be able to accomplish all that God has purposed in my life because “those who know their God shall be strong, do exploits and great things”. When we understand God, then we can “instruct/point many” others to God through the preaching of the good news (Gospel) of Christ.

Friend, in 2014, I am challenging you to know God and continue to grow in knowing God. Otherwise, you will remain a child/baby (in diapers, baby bottles, frequently whining and at the mercy of the “prosperity preachers”) in Christ. Listen to apostle Paul, ---13 “Till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ.” Ephesians 4:13-15.

Now you have enough reasons to know and grow in God this year above all else? Then, please join us in the journey of our study of the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians. We are not trying to gain “book knowledge”. We are studying and praying that God will grant us the spirit of wisdom and revelation of who He is and his great love for us.

God will use everything within His resources to do so – His Word, the Holy Spirit, our prayers/cries to Him, blessings, trials/hardships, even people to reveal Himself to us. Are you ready? Then pray this prayer every day for yourself, for me and everyone in your life. “Lord, grant me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of you, my God, Father and Lord” Amen. Please make sure God is your Father through adoption by your believe in Christ’s death, burial and resurrection for the forgiveness your sins. Receive God’s grace through faith today. Amen. Please read the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians as many times as possible.

Awesome posting! Ephesians 1:3 offers the foundation of our faith "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ." Your point is so true that that we continually search for material blessings instead of acknowledging that God has already provided us with all we need in Jesus Christ. Amen!
