Stop Worrying and Anxious Right Now

Stop Worrying and Anxious Right Now

Grace (seven) woke up in the middle of the night running to me and saying 'daddy I had a bad dream'. She just started talking to me and not for a second thinking that I was sleeping but rather with full confidence that I must be awake and listening. She also had the full confidence that I was going to give her immediate safety and comfort in her situation by just listening. She does this time and time again whenever she has bad dreams and troubled. Now that is faith and it is great example for me of being anxious for nothing and not worrying.

You and I are waking up many moments sitting and just worrying about our lives’ bad dreams without running to the arms of our Heavenly Father. We chew and regurgitate our worries as if they are real. It is just a dream of what you think will happen and how it will turn out. Yes, you have facts but God has final say. Let’s just stop worrying right now. Listen to God’s word as Paul speaks to the Philippians after telling them to rejoice always and again in the Lord:

“6 Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. 7 And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. Philippians 4:6-7.

What is your night mire and what are you doing in the midst of it? God is looking for child-like faith and for his children. When we worry and are anxious we assume the father's position instead of the child in the family. It is the father’s position to provide and protect the children.

There is only one solution to anxiety and worrying. Run to daddy every time. Immediately you become anxious run to daddy and tell Him. The mere fact of running to God gives the immediate release and relief from worrying. Our Father is always listening. You may have to do it many times in a day.

Now top it up with prayer and supplication with thanksgiving you get to your peace. Note that the answer has not even come and you are already at peace. Most of us are waiting for answers before experiencing our peace. Your peace is immediate because you run to the Prince of Peace. Your peace is not dependent on the answer because you could be waiting a long time if God permits.

You can’t be rejoicing always in the Lord and at the same time worrying/anxious always. It means one or the other is happening. Worrying or rejoicing in the Lord?

When we worry and are anxious, we are actually falsely accusing God for not living up to His promises. Jesus has already told us don’t worry:

“But do not worry, for your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own”. Matthew 6: 32-33. Live in the now and enjoy God’s abiding presence and peace.

For Paul, as far as our names are in the Book of Life; and we have been reconciled to our Father and we are headed to heaven; and Christ is coming soon to give us a new glorified body like His, there is nothing else to worry about. When you have God, you have everything else.

Hear what the medical experts are saying are some of the consequences of worrying. “Worrying can have a negative effect on your health, making you tired, stressed, speed up the ageing process and sometimes more prone to depression… You may also become more prone to infections. It is widely accepted that stress and anxiety can lower your immune system, making you more susceptible to picking up colds or more serious illnesses.

Worrying also has an effect on our brains. Excessive worry disturbs your peace of mind making it harder for you to concentrate on one task at a time. This means it may also be difficult for you to fall asleep at night”.

What will you do going forward? Worrying or running to God and telling Him what is disturbing you? It is not easy. Even as I write, there are some health and schooling situations that wants me to worry. I have refused. Lord I give it to you because you have the best for me and my family. I will trust you Lord. Thank you for granting me your peace that passes my understanding at this time. Amen
