BLESSED ARE YOU IN 2017!

BLESSED ARE YOU IN 2017!

We begin the New Year 2017 in the beatitudes as we continue our study of Mathew 5. We are wishing everyone “Happy New Year!” What do we really mean? And what is “Happy”? The Words of Jesus “Blessed are you” in the Beatitudes can also mean “Happy are you!” We all want to be happy and blessed this year. But take a look at the lists of people who are blessed according to Jesus:

Matthew 5 The Beatitudes: “One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, 2 and he began to teach them.

3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,[a] for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 4 God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. 6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. 7 God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

9 God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. 10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way”. (NLT).

Do you still want to be blessed this year according to what Jesus has listed? Are we willing to be poor in spirit and run to God? Are we willing to mourn, be humbled, hunger for justice, be merciful to others; pure in heart, work for peace, persecuted, mocked and lied about?

Basically, Jesus is saying, my blessings for you is my presence with you and in you. That is the blessing. God himself is our great reward and not things. “In thy presence is fullness of joy, at thy right hand are pleasures forever more”- Psalm 16:11. Do you know Jesus and is He in you?

The beatitudes are the right attitudes we need to have this year and constantly draw near to God regardless of what is going on. He has promised he will never leave nor forsake us. Amen.
YES, BLESSED ARE YOU IN 2017! HAVE AND LIVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE!
