Get off the Mind Couch - You Salt & LIght

Get off the Mind Couch
You Are Salt and Light

Have you thought of yourself being added to a boiling soup to make it sweet for those who will eat it? Have you also thought of yourself as a cold freezer to store and preserve food otherwise it will go very bad? Have you thought of yourself to be light that shines in darkness to help people see and at the same time make them uncomfortable because of the brightness of your light?

These are exactly what Jesus is saying in Matthew 5. May Jesus help us to understand what He expects of us because of His Holy Spirit that lives in us, so we can do something.

Matthew 5: 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father”. (NLT)

Are you salt that exist only in the salt shaker and looking pretty and never shaken out? Are you only a lamp that is lit and hiding under the bed in a dark room? May we salt and shine today for the glory of Jesus regardless of the darkness or the difficult people (the ‘boiling soups and hot tempered’) that may surround us. Amen. Let’s be gracious to others because we have sometimes been the difficult people and still may be. Am learning, if you are going to shine outside, shine also at home. Jesus’ light “gives light to everyone in the house” vs. 15.

Who can you salt and light up today? Pray for him or her and do something as the Holy Spirit leads you. Apostle Paul was blunt - Stop the excuses and get out of your comfort zone/mind couch and do something. There will be no perfect circumstances when you can impact lives for God.

“14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life” Philippians 2:14-16 (NKJV).

With the transition of government in America and other world events, we can choose to complain or pray and make a change in our immediate sphere of influence. May God help the new administration and elected officials to do what is right for all in honor of God. We also thank God for the out-going administration and pray that God will lead them in their personal lives to know Christ do His will.

May God help us this year to get off of our “mind couches” and daily do something that impact lives for the glory of God. Amen.
