Our Angels and Hearts for the Lost

Our Angels and Hearts for the Lost

In popular culture the phrase “guardian angel” is used casually and as if it is a thing of luck. You will hear it used by those who don’t even believe in Jesus Christ. They just have a feeling that there is someone out there watching over them.

For followers of Christ, it is not a fairytale. Angels are real and are all over the Scriptures and are created by God. They are servants of God to do His bidding.

In our study today, Jesus makes reference to the unceasing work of angels on our behalf- that is the “little ones” those who are childlike in faith and humility. These are those who have put complete faith and trust in Jesus no matter what happens. Have you put total trust and faith in Christ as your Lord and Savior? If so these words of Jesus in Matthew 18:10-14 apply to you and are for you.

10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven. 11 For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. [a]

12 “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? 13 And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish”.

With the angels bidding for us, we can be at rest and assured that our Father is in control and there is nothing to fear. Psalm 91:9-12 “Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone”.

In addition we have the deposit of the Spirit of God in us once we believed and trusted Christ. Ephesians 1:13-14 “ 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who[b] is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory”.

With all of the above we are equipped to obedience to the command of Christ to go and make disciples, preaching his gospel and having a heart for the lost. If we are His, we must have his heart. We can no longer excuse sharing our Jesus and his gospel with the unsaved, the “astray”. This is the only reason Jesus Christ came to earth. Only unnecessary fear is stopping us.

What will you do today and going forward? Are you going to remain in church to party with the 99 or are you going to go out with Jesus looking for the one who is lost, the “astray”? Christ loves all and cares for all and we must love all and care for all. Everyone is very important to God whether they are democrat, decadent, republican, reprobate, independent, indecent, rich and or poor in money. God only sees two classes of people; the saved and the lost. Let’s go beyond the labels and love people and tell them the gospel. It does not matter what label you have, if you don’t have Christ, you are headed to hell. Sorry, not my judgment, am just a messenger.

Jesus is not going to leave any of his children behind but he has invited us to participate with him to bring them in just as someone helped bring us to Jesus. Tell people who Jesus is and he takes over from there in the saving and transforming of their lives.

May God help us not be like the “wicked and lazy servant” who hid his talents. See Matthew 25:14-30. Do you want more to be given to you? Then first use what you already got and the people God has put you in contact with. They are not there by chance. See Acts 17:24-26.

Lord give us your heart for the lost and the “astray”. Help us to love them as you do and help us to share the gospel of salvation with all; and with boldness of the Holy Spirit. We pray for all we come in contact with; that you will open their hearts and eyes to see and believe and trust in Christ as we share the gospel with them. We thank you for our angels. Amen.
