Why Turn Water into Wine?

Dear Saints of God:
We continue our in-depth study of John 2. We are in late spring and going into summer and fall. It is wedding season. We pray for all who are getting married this season including one of our dear sisters. May God bless your wedding and your marriage to be a blessing to the whole world. Amen.

Imagine the worst happening in a wedding. Remember, the wedding ceremony is just ceremony that last for one day but the marriage itself lasts a life time. Let's invest more on the marriage than the wedding ceremony. Imagine that at the reception, the food runs out and more than half the people did not get food to eat. Upon that, the wine and drinks run out. What do you do in such crisis? You cry out for help.

We must ask for help in crisis and at all times. Just like in John 2, we must run to Jesus. So why did Jesus perform the first ever miracle He had performed in a wedding in Cana Galilee? We are told:

11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and [a]manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. John 2: 11

Every miracle and answer to prayer is first to display the glory of God and second to cause us to believe in Jesus. This is consistent with the theme of John's Gospel:

30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[b] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:30-31.

Next time we ask anything, remember it is first for God’s glory and not really for us. This will change our prayer lives and expectations.

So why are you asking for what you are asking and praying for what you are praying for right now? Is it for you or for God? Will it cause you to believe more in the goodness of God? Will answer to your prayers cause people around you to see Christ and believe and put their trust in God.

Can we allow God to use our crisis for His Glory and to draw people to Jesus?

Lord, open our eyes to the ultimate, your glory and for your glory. May your will be done in our lives for the purpose of displaying your glory. May our lives and encounters with you draw many to see Jesus and come to believe and receive Christ as Lord and Savior.

May the one reading who is not yet a believer and follower of Christ, come to faith in Him, even now. Amen.
