The Final Judgment of Unbelievers In Christ
Why do we have the big fights during the USA Supreme Court judges' nomination and confirmation? These men and women are humans and have judicial philosophies that can taint their judgments. We know how certain judges will vote on the issue of abortion and other issues.
God’s judgment of the unbeliever is righteous and final without appeals. It is appointed unto man once to die and after that is judgment. Revelation 20 describes the final judgment of the unbelievers in Christ. When was the last time you heard a sermon on the final judgment? There is surely a judgment coming.
The saints of God (those who trusted Jesus and received forgiveness for their sins) will go through a different judgment, more like an award ceremony for our good deeds (see Romans 14:10-12 and 2 Corinthians 5:10). “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1; Whose names are in the Book of Life.
The unbeliever in Christ will be judged based on their book of deeds because they chose to be judged as such by rejecting the free salvation and forgiveness of Christ. You will never have enough good deeds to escape Hell.
People, not God, send themselves to hell. “16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16-18.
11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
There are a couple of things to note:
1. Jesus will be the Judge. People only think of the loving Jesus, but He is coming back as the King and Judge. See John 5:22, “For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son.” Also, see Acts 17:31
2. Every unbeliever (great and small) will be raised from death to a new body for their punishment. 3. There are two types of books – the books of deeds and the Book of Life. 4. Anyone not found in the Book of Life is cast into the lake of fire.
5. Everyone born was in the Book of Life; when you refuse Jesus before you die, your name is blotted out of it (see Revelation 3:5; 13:8; 17:8, 21:27, Exodus 32:33, Psalm 69:28). 6. The Lake of fire (hell) is permanent and forever. Unbelievers are not annihilated; they will burn and suffer nonstop forever in hell. Satan, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet are already there by this time of the judgment of unbelievers.
7. There seems to be some degree of suffering in hell based on Revelation 20:13. Jesus even spoke about it in Luke 12:47-48.
Yes, you believe and trust in Christ. We thank God! But, so what? People around us do not yet believe because they have not indeed heard the GOSPEL. Will you help others hear of Jesus and put their faith in Him?
“13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” 14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Romans 10:13-15.
