Extreme Devotion - Study 6/28/13

Extreme Devotion We are now in the world of extremes – the extreme reality shows, the extreme makeovers and the extreme -- you name it. How about extreme, radical devotion to Jesus? All of us can be great casts and characters in this real life reality show - Devotion to Christ. Why not? I like yard/garage or moving sales. I went to a moving sale in my neighborhood this past weekend. This elegant lady (probably in early 70s) owns the stuff. I imagine the husband had passed away and she had been living and maintaining this big house. It is now time to down size and move to an assisted living apartment with less care on her part. I once saw her and complimented her on the impeccable and well maintained grounds/lawn of her property. She replied and said “thank you, I am just trying”. She was tired and I saw it in her face and response. Now most of her precious possessions (lots of jewelry, expensive fur coats, dresses, shoes, and household items) are marked with $10, $5, or less and ...

Two Different Actions - Study 6/18/13

Two Different Actions How is it possible that two people watching and observing the same event, movie or action would have two different reactions and interpretation? Imagine yourself at a funeral. The burial and interment has taken place and you were just hanging around to comfort the bereaved family. Now walks in Jesus and He goes to the grave, tells people to remove the grave stone or whatever is covering the grave (sand or gravel). Then Jesus proceeds to call forth the dead person to come out alive and he did. I don’t know about you but my first instinct is to take to my heels and run. I will probably calm down later and come back to observe from a closer distance. What would you have done if you were there when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead? Many were present and Apostle John records two notable reactions and results by the people gathered. “45 Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him. 46 But some of them went awa...

Jesus Weeps for Me - Study 6/6/13

Jesus weeps for me Why are there sufferings and pain in this world? Many people are born deformed from birth. Serious sickness strikes us such as incurable cancer. People are murdering each other and crime such as rape and abuse reign all over the world. It just seems like nothing works and finally there is death for everyone. Why is everything in your life and mine not working perfectly? There seem to be one thing or the other we are dealing with. There are all these natural disasters, earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, that are causing their own troubles. It is a messed up and a fallen world. Is this the world God made from the beginning? God had said that everything He made was “good”. In other words, it was perfect including humans. In John 11, Jesus, being fully God and human experienced firsthand the pain of this messed up of world. In the shortest verse of the Bible, it is recorded, 35 “Jesus wept”. Why did Jesus weep? He wept while he was standing in front of the grave ...

I prayed for you today (5/29/13)

Dear Friend/Brother/Sister 15 After I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding[c] being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which...

Abundant Life in Jesus - Study 5/23/13

Abundant Life in Jesus We have just witnessed in the natural sense an example of what Jesus spoke in John 10:10. On Monday May 20th, tornado touched down in Oklahoma with up to 300 mph wind, 1.5 mile wide and 17 miles stretch of destruction flattening everything on its path. The destruction is unimaginable from the photos and thank God many survived. So far 24 are listed dead (including 9 children). We pray God’s comfort for these families that have lost loved ones and have no place to live. John 10:9-10 says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly”. This is one of the most misquoted and misapplied verse and word of Jesus. In the natural, we see the lives lost and the destruction in Oklahoma. A man interviewed had just moved into a brand new house 8 days ago and right now th...

I was blind, now I see - Study 5/15/13

I was blind, now I see This is our story if you believe in Jesus. Who can argue with a blind man who now sees for the first time and previously had been blind from birth for 38 years? It seems obvious that there will be no question or doubt about whether the man was blind and can now see. Well some people doubted then and still doubt even today. Was he really blind in the first place and does he really see now and who made the blind see again? Unbelief in God is spiritual blindness and it will make you not see anything that is from God and of God. I was amazed to notice that Apostle John used the word “believe” 98 times in the gospel of John. There is only one outcome from studying the Gospel of John and in fact the entire Bible - to believe and put our trust in God. There is no other way to relate to God except to believe in Him. John 20: 31 and John 1:7 In this chapter 9 of John, we encounter Jesus’ love for us typified in the healing of the blind man. This is a very sweet stor...

Who is Your Father? - Study 5/6/13

Who is Your Father? We live in a day when lying is no longer a big deal. We have now other words for it. Political correctness is the reign of the day. Presidents, politicians, ordinary people no longer tell people and one another the truth in an effort not to offend and be all inclusive, accommodating and tolerant. On the surface, it all sounds nice but the foundation is lies from the father of lies – Satan. Armstrong, the “dethroned” world champion cyclist lied for years about his use of steroids and other enhancing drugs that gave him advantage to compete and win. The lies have finally caught up with him. Look at some statistics from a Newsweek Study (DatabaseRecords.com, 9-14-2012: “Percent of adults who admit to telling lies "sometimes" or "often"- 12%; Percent of people who lie at least once during a 10-minute conversation- 60%; Percent of people who admit to lying on their resumes – 31%”. There is more in the study and you can check it out. This world...
