God, Go Figure!
God, Go Figure!
Some things are very easy to understand and prove. An example is the law of gravity. If you throw anything or object up, it will surely come down. Why? The object comes down because there is nothing supporting it, so the earth’s gravity pulls it down. There are things that have been used to counter the law of gravity otherwise the air planes would not fly. Let’s leave that explanation to the physicists. When it comes to full and total understanding and comprehension of God and His ways, there is no explanation. Apostle Paul in Romans reached this conclusion after wrestling with the issue of God’s election through grace for the purpose of showing His mercy.
Romans 11: 28 - 36
28As far as the gospel is concerned, they (the Jews) are enemies on your account; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, 29for God's gifts and his call are irrevocable. 30Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now[h] receive mercy as a result of God's mercy to you. 32For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.
33Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and[i] knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
34"Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?"[j]
35"Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay him?"[k]
36For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.
After studying these chapters Roman 1-11, I must confess that I do have some understanding but not the total comprehension of God’s choice to have mercy on me. What about you? Have you figured out with total comprehension why God’s mercy is on you? If you have, please share with me and go tell the whole world.
I can see apostle Paul throwing up his hands and shouting “How unsearchable his judgments and his paths beyond tracing out!” When was the last time you gave to God that He should now repay? Was it before you were born or after you’re born. It is so liberating to know that God does not owe us anything. This realization is the beginning of living the abundant life Jesus spoke about (John 10:10). What have you been thinking God owes you – money, good health, no problems, marriage, children, good job, etc? Apostle Paul is saying get real, there is no entitlement with God. It is not like the social security in which you paid into and now the U.S. government must pay you back. It is all by God’s grace and mercy that we are saved and live.
So like Paul, we conclude and shout with the highest praise “36For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
Did you get that? To Him be the glory forever! Amen. Go and live out His praise and glory by proclamation and deeds of good works which He created us to do (Ephesians 2:10).
May the Lord help us understand more of Him and His Ways, Amen.
