All Your Secrets/Sins in Plain View?
Dear Saints:
Have you ever been alone with Jesus? When you get alone with Jesus, people will be wondering what is going on. Even the Disciples could not figure out why Jesus was all alone with a woman. Everything was contrary in the picture playing out in our today’s study of John 4 (please read verse 1-42). First, she is a woman and Jesus is a man. She is woman but a Samaritan woman and not Jewish woman. Jews and Samaritans don’t mix.
When we get all alone with Jesus, something deep happens. We are laid bare because Jesus knows everything about us. It is very serious to be alone with Jesus, the Creator of all things and all beings. There's nothing hidden from him. The sweet thing about Jesus is that even though all your secrets are exposed in front of him, He does not shame you but sets you free.
I heard this week that an average person has 13 secrets they have never told anyone. Is it really 13 secrets? Jesus knows everyone one of those. Don't you think it is time we come clean and agree with God who loves and knows us intimately? The woman at the well came clean and owned up to all her secret sins known and unknown to other people but not unknown to God.
Are you ready to come clean with Jesus today? When we come to Jesus, He cleanses us from all unrighteousness and our shame and guilt are gone forever. This woman was hurting deep down. Our present and past relationships cause us the most pain. Jesus healed the pain and restored her to wholeness. What about you? Can you let Jesus into all your relationships by beginning a serious relationship with Jesus? May the Lord heal your past wounds today.
There is no other way to live except in the presence of Jesus for they that worship God must do so in spirit and in truth as Jesus told the woman at the well:
“23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24
TRUTH (Jesus Himself) sets us free. When will you give up “good religion” and pursue and seek TRUTH? Naturally we do not like truth. We need TRUTH. We need Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah.
What is your secret sin and do you think Jesus does not know it?
John 4:4 said, “ 4 But He needed to go through Samaria.” Jesus had to go through Samaria, so He set out just to meet this woman at the well. Jesus is still going out of His way to meet us because we need to be freed and loved. The Father is always seeking us even in our sins and secrets.
Looking for true love? Come to Jesus and get it and get Him. Five past husbands or a current boy-friend; or five past wives or a current girl-friend will not be sufficient. We are all looking for the same thing – to be loved and cherished even in our sins just like the woman at the well. Jesus loves us despite our messes.
While we were sinners He died for us. Jesus cleanses us to pursue a love relationship with Him. We now do what is right not out of compulsion, but because He loves us. He also lives in us by His Holy Spirit to enable us do what is right. This is the TRUTH and the SPIRIT at work in us as His “worshipers.” The Father is seeking "TRUE" worshipers.
May we pray like the psalmist today:
“Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. 13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of [g] great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:12-13.
May we go today and proclaim like the woman to our neighbors and city: “29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did.” Jesus will set our neighbors free if we introduce them to Jesus. Will you tell someone of Jesus today?
Today, we learned from Jesus how a man/father should treat a woman with love and gentleness. Happy Father's Day to all our fathers.
