What is Everlasting Life & Do You Have HIM?
Dear Saints:
We continue to study Jesus’ long conversation with the Jewish leaders who had rightly accused Him of “being equal with God” the Father (please read again John 5). And Jesus is. Today we explore the bottom line of all discussions and all conversations. Jesus confronts them with the truth of eternal/everlasting life and on how to enter in and experience Him and also on how to come so close but miss Him. Let’s hear Jesus:
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” John 5:24.
We can also recall that while speaking to another Jewish leader Nicodemus in John 3:16, Jesus said,
“16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
We can see from this two passages that believing/trusting in God the Father who sent Jesus and believing in Jesus, God the Son are the same and that is eternal/everlasting life. Knowing God is everlasting life as Jesus again, said in John 17: 3 -5, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.”
We can also see the result of eternal life, that is, “passing from death to life” and that begins right now. Once and when we believe and trust in Jesus, we enter into an everlasting relationship with the living God. We are also not “condemned” but are exempt from “judgment” for our sins. This is the Gospel – the greatest News for all people. It is all made possible because died on the cross, was buried and rose again so we can have and live a resurrected lives with Him and in Him.
We also note from the exchange with the Jewish leaders that just reading the Scriptures does not guarantee finding and experiencing everlasting life. Again hear Jesus:
39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
The Bible is the account of God making Himself know so we can come to Him and find Him, the real life we need. Jesus is the “Word [God] who became flesh and dwelled among us” and He gives us real life. Do you have real life? Am not asking if you read and study the Scripture. There are those who did so before and doing so now who have not found Jesus. You and I need a revelation of Jesus, otherwise we will never find Him and find life. A lot of people are just existing in the world and unfortunately in the church too.
Religion will stop you from finding Jesus. This past week, a group of us visited a Mosque, a Hindu and a Buddhist temple. These places are full of religion, “holy books” and statues of miniature gods that cannot lead to life in Jesus. Only the power of God can save these worshipers of false gods. Also, only the Holy Spirit can save the people of the West with their own “stealth gods” of materialism/merchandise, entertainment and sports (among the many gods of America and other places). It is only by God’s grace and mercy that we find Him and not by our good works which we should still do for His glory.
Do you really have everlasting life? Do you have Jesus and His Holy Spirit living in you? Please do not be insulted. Jesus said that wide is the gate, broad is the way to destruction and many enter through it but narrow is His gate we must enter through (Matthew 7:13). Come to Jesus today and ask Him for real life.
Please never play the game of church attendance and bible study void of real life in Jesus. That is a recipe for hell – an everlasting separation from God.
Lord, may all of us who read this and study the Scriptures never miss coming to you and knowing you. Please have mercy on us and reveal yourself to us. Please cleanse us from all sins and let your Holy Spirit transform our lives to live daily in obedience to you. Amen.
Please share with someone who really needs real life in Jesus and not these fake lives around us. Pray for all people to see Jesus.
