Who is Your Father?

Dear Saints

My father died when I was eleven years old. Though very young, I have good and fond memories of my father. He was our community leader and a very honorable man known for standing for the truth especially for the fatherless and the poor. My father with members of his council would often ensure that the powerful did not swindle land from the hands of the fatherless and poor and he shunned bribery. He was not perfect but he was a good man who loved us.
I know that not everyone have fond memories of their father whether alive or deceased. Sorry if am stroking some wounds and unpleasant memories of your father. We thank God for all our earthly fathers.

In today's study (please read again John 8), we are challenged to decide and define who our father is. We all have two fathers - our earthly father and a spirit father. Jesus tells the Jewish leaders and the Pharisees who their real spiritual father is:

“44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.” John 8: 44-45.

"Your father is the devil ". And he is a liar and the father of lies? Woo, very shocking! Did you hear that? Talk about being politically correct. We don't like to hear the truth; so were the people Jesus was speaking with.

The truth is that everyone of us have or have had the devil as our father. Listen to Apostle Paul:

“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.” Ephesians 2:1-3.

Before our salvation by the penalty for our sins by Christ on the cross, we all had Satan as our father and answered to him and fulfilling his “desires” for evil conduct.
Now the Good News:
“12 But as many as received Him [Jesus], to them He gave the ]right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13.

I thank God we have a new Father and now children of the living God, our Father. I now can honestly pray, “Our Father in Heaven hallowed be your name…. I can call God my Father at any time and even better, my Father lives in me by His Spirit. What a joy and good news of the Gospel.

Caution! We must hate lies from us or anyone else. The next time you are tempted to lie, ask, who is my father? People who still have the devil as their father, never hesitate telling lies. We are children of the TRUTH, and we must worship God in “truth and in Spirit.”

Message from Jesus to ALL BELIEVERS:

“31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32.

May we abide in Jesus' word daily because He has freed us from the slavery of sin and the power to sin. When we abide, He abides in us and we get to know intimately, our God, the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and thus live for His glory.
Can you help someone find a new father today by introducing them to Jesus, the TRUTH?

Lord, help us to live in the truth, and tell the truth and lead others to you the TRUTH. Amen.
