"I Give Eternal Life" Jesus Is God

Dear Saints:

Have you wondered why people in and outside the church gravitate to the good works of Jesus but once you cross the line of saying that Jesus is God Himself, they draw back? We want to see Jesus’ powerful miracles of the past and present. We want to do good works and feel good in the name of Christ. The world and sadly many in the Church do not want the Jesus who is God. Why?

God makes demand for the penalty of sin and He has satisfied Himself in the person of God the Son who died and paid for sin. You see, every one of us want to think we are good and therefore we do not need a savior. That is what happened even during Jesus earthly ministry and in our study of John 10 (please read the chapter).

Jesus declared Himself to be God because He said He gives people “eternal life”. This declaration made the Jewish leaders very angry and for that they eventually killed Him for being God. For the Jew, they understand that only God can give eternal life. Eternal life is here for now and forever. Let’s hear Jesus speak:

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” John 10:27-30.

Who do you think you are Jesus?

“31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33 The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God

Jesus never stopped people from thinking He is God. He in fact reaffirmed it. "I and the Father are one.” If He is not God, He cannot be perfect sacrifice for our sins.

Until we acknowledge Jesus as God, He cannot save us and He cannot give us “eternal life”. Your co-workers, neighbors and people on the street are uncomfortable with Jesus because He is God. Nobody wants to come close to God because their sins and short comings will be revealed. However, God Himself can reveal Himself to anyone and save them by His grace, kindness and love when they put their trust in Christ. The Cross alone is sufficient for our salvation; nothing more and nothing less.

The encounter in this chapter 10 ended as recorded: “41 Many came to Him and were saying, “While John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this man was true.” 42 Many believed in Him there.” John 10:41-42.

His sheep will come to Him. Many were saved because they were His “sheep”.

Have you received your own “eternal Life” gift from Jesus? Don't be an "unsaved Christian".

You see, “eternal life” is a gift and cannot be earned. Let’s stop trying to earn God’s favor. We are already favored in Christ and by Christ. Our churches are filled with “cultural Christians” who do not have eternal life because they are working so hard to earn “good works points” for their salvation. We must reach even those “unsaved Christians” in our churches. We must also reach those atheists/agnostics and unbelievers who do not go to church.

Of course we must do good works because we are saved for good works not by good works. Making Disciples and Evangelism - telling others of the Gospel is a good work we must do.

The work of evangelism is made simple and easy when we realize that eternal life is a gift given only by Jesus. You cannot give eternal life to anyone but you can invite and introduce them to Jesus who will give them their own gift of eternal life.

Will you do that and become a means of delivery of the gift of “eternal life”? Who by name will you pray for and introduce to Jesus? May God help us to hear His voice and obey Him. Amen.
