Abundant Life in Jesus - Study 5/23/13

Abundant Life in Jesus We have just witnessed in the natural sense an example of what Jesus spoke in John 10:10. On Monday May 20th, tornado touched down in Oklahoma with up to 300 mph wind, 1.5 mile wide and 17 miles stretch of destruction flattening everything on its path. The destruction is unimaginable from the photos and thank God many survived. So far 24 are listed dead (including 9 children). We pray God’s comfort for these families that have lost loved ones and have no place to live. John 10:9-10 says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly”. This is one of the most misquoted and misapplied verse and word of Jesus. In the natural, we see the lives lost and the destruction in Oklahoma. A man interviewed had just moved into a brand new house 8 days ago and right now th...

I was blind, now I see - Study 5/15/13

I was blind, now I see This is our story if you believe in Jesus. Who can argue with a blind man who now sees for the first time and previously had been blind from birth for 38 years? It seems obvious that there will be no question or doubt about whether the man was blind and can now see. Well some people doubted then and still doubt even today. Was he really blind in the first place and does he really see now and who made the blind see again? Unbelief in God is spiritual blindness and it will make you not see anything that is from God and of God. I was amazed to notice that Apostle John used the word “believe” 98 times in the gospel of John. There is only one outcome from studying the Gospel of John and in fact the entire Bible - to believe and put our trust in God. There is no other way to relate to God except to believe in Him. John 20: 31 and John 1:7 In this chapter 9 of John, we encounter Jesus’ love for us typified in the healing of the blind man. This is a very sweet stor...

Who is Your Father? - Study 5/6/13

Who is Your Father? We live in a day when lying is no longer a big deal. We have now other words for it. Political correctness is the reign of the day. Presidents, politicians, ordinary people no longer tell people and one another the truth in an effort not to offend and be all inclusive, accommodating and tolerant. On the surface, it all sounds nice but the foundation is lies from the father of lies – Satan. Armstrong, the “dethroned” world champion cyclist lied for years about his use of steroids and other enhancing drugs that gave him advantage to compete and win. The lies have finally caught up with him. Look at some statistics from a Newsweek Study (DatabaseRecords.com, 9-14-2012: “Percent of adults who admit to telling lies "sometimes" or "often"- 12%; Percent of people who lie at least once during a 10-minute conversation- 60%; Percent of people who admit to lying on their resumes – 31%”. There is more in the study and you can check it out. This world...

Caught in the Very Act - Study 4/30/13

Caught in the Very Act President Clinton was caught in the very act and it made big news. He was tried by the whole world being the leader of the most powerful nation of the world. His affair with Monica Lewinsky almost cost him the presidency and his family and the nation in a sense suffered shame. A recent big name caught in the very act is General Petraeus. He resigned his position because of his affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell. Not long ago, the World cried foul because of a Middle East woman who was going to be stoned because of adultery and there was no mention of the man involved nor any punishment for him. How come it is just the woman only in the Islamic Sharia justice system? After all it takes two to tangle. About 2000 years ago, a woman was caught in the very act. She was brought to Jesus for judgment and again without the man/men involved. “3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 ...

Mocked By Your Brothers in Your House - Study 4/23/13

Mocked By Your Brothers in Your House The worst heart pains are inflicted at home and in your own household. We are more forgiving of outsiders than those within. Why is it so? We often think and conclude that those within should know better. It is played out thousands of times in the marriage relationship and that is one of the reasons the divorce rate is so high even among those who profess to be Christians. We often say the marriage is broken because the heart is broken. We have a Jesus whose heart was broken at home before he could even minister outside. His own brothers mocked him and did not believe in him. Apostle John records, 3 His brothers therefore said to Him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. 4 For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” 5 For even His brothers did not believe in Him”. John 7: 3-5. Did you hear what ...

World (Word) Hunger - Study 4/14/13

World (Word) Hunger Jesus is interested in all of our affairs including what to eat. He is concerned about World hunger too because the Scriptures says God “gives food to all flesh” (Psalm 136:25). There is a serious food hunger in our world today. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), “In round numbers there are 7 billion people in the world. Thus, with an estimated 925 million hungry people in the world, 13.1 percent, or almost 1 in 7 people are hungry”. These are real figures and we should do whatever we can to help feed people and nations. Growing up during a period of civil war in Nigeria, I saw hunger and malnutrition first hand especially on the very young. People lacked the basic nutrients (protein) that caused them to have bloated stomachs, tinny legs and hands; and big and enlarged heads. You have seen some of the pictures. It is called kwashiorkor and it kills if not treated and often it may be too late. There is another even worst ...

Have you Passed from Death to Life? Happy Easter! - 3/31/13

Have you Passed from Death to Life? As we celebrate this Easter, we need to make clear and reassured of what we are celebrating. People feel sorry for Jesus and weep for the events that led to the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Feelings are good but not enough. “27 And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. 28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.” (Luke 23:27-28). The real issue is whether we have “passed from death to life”. “24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life” (John 5:24). If you have by believing in Jesus then Easter is for you and me. If not there is nothing to celebrate. In John 5, we encounter a man who had been impotent/paralyzed for thirty eight years. We are not told the exact c...
